two old and one young from islay

Last week I suddenly found out that a trip to Bergen was in order, I haven’t seen some of my friends for a long time, so tickets was ordered, hotell booked and then it hit me: I have recently tried the Ardbeg 1974 and knew that there was one bottle left at the state run bottle shop in Bergen. Monday night I noticed it was still available, but when I called on tuesday it was gone…. The last bottle of Ardbeg 1974, gone! Very disappointing, but saturday morning I was off for a very good weekend, and it turned out I wouldn’t be too disappointed when it came to whisky this weekend either.

Glenfiddich and caol ila

Wednesday the target for the evening was jekylls in Oslo, a wonderful pub with a range of good whiskies and a competent staff that alwyas is there to help you out with suggestions and information on bottles. It’s also the only pub in Norway with a cask behind the bar: a Highland Park 12yo sherry cask ( #1556 ) that holds a good 59% and is a sherry bomb! But, our venture was not to include this cask but rather a couple of Glenfiddich bottles and a bit odd Caol Ila.

Always verify your variables!

Working at the technology team in fronter I see a lot of code, and I review patches on a daily basis. One thing you learn after a while is to see beyond the code that is in front of you: patterns emerge, you start to see problems that can arise because of a patch that maybe looks clean from the outside. We have staging tools and review applications that helps facilitate the process that we go through, and we have a process now that makes patching much easier than it was earlier ( it’s a ongoing process – you can always get better ).

Ardbeg 1974

I have always been a great fan of Ardbeg: the peat, salt and spice always have me wanting more. Until now I’ve enjoyed Nam Beist the most, but I’ve always been looking at a bottle of Ardbeg 1974 at the pub, meaning to sample it one of these days ( the pricetag alone have been the part that have stopped me ). In 2007 I went to a tasting with Jim Murray at the norwegian whisky festival where he described the 1974 Ardbeg as the ultimate in whisky, followed up by tasting 7 different Ardbegs with a representative of the Ardbeg distillery. But sadly the 1974 never came up that evening.

nmwl tasting

nmwl is the Norwegian Malt Whisky Society, and once a month we meet up 30-40 people or so and taste our way through a lot of good whisky. The first meeting of 2009 took place on wednesday in the new meeting place in Oslo, and the topic of the night was “Old whisky”. Last year my attendance at the meetings was poor at best, they always seemed to be on the nights where I either had to work or something else came up. This year though I’m planning to attend more since the range of whisky you can taste is very good!

phpm

4 years ago I wrote a small program called phpm that I used for php function lookup when coding in vim. since then I’ve crossed over to ZendStudio and I’m now using that for my everyday work. But: every now and then I’ve had requests regarding phpm and if I can’t digg up the sources, and I’ve said: “sorry, but those are lost”. Until today: I went through a old HD, digging through backups and files: and suddenly phpm resurfaced!

So, today I can put the sources up here again if you still are interested. I’m not going to develop any further on it, so if someone wants to continue the development on it: please contact me on this blogpost.

The files:
* phpm
* the xml files – you need these too
* optional phpdocumentor template that will generate a xml file from your project

Remember that the xml files from the projects included in the xml package are old, and is there now only for a reference on how the program is set up. I’m not sure if the generate.php script will actually generate a correct php.xml file since there might have been changes in the documentation process the last 4 years.

I have tested the script out and it is still working, so there you go: a little new years present from my good old backup HD to you :) Let me know how it works out for you.
